AI POLICY
1. Overview
Jurnal Teknisi recognizes the rapid evolution and growing potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, and automated translation or editing tools in academic research and writing. While these tools can improve efficiency and clarity, they also introduce complex ethical considerations regarding authorship, transparency, accountability, and originality.
This policy outlines the acceptable and prohibited uses of AI-assisted technologies for authors, reviewers, and editors contributing to Jurnal Teknisi.
2. Policy for Authors
A. Ineligibility of AI as an Author
-
AI cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) do not possess legal personhood, cannot be held accountable for the integrity of the research, and cannot sign copyright or conflict-of-interest agreements.
-
Authorship implies direct responsibility for the scholarly work, which can only be borne by human researchers.
B. Permitted Uses of AI Tools
Authors are permitted to use AI and AI-assisted technologies strictly for editorial enhancement and language refinement, such as:
-
Grammar and Spelling Checkers: Using tools like Grammarly or ProWritingAid to correct language, syntax, and tone.
-
Stylistic Improvement: Refining sentences, formatting references, or translating text (provided the author thoroughly reviews and verifies the translation).
-
Brainstorming: Assisting in drafting outlines or generating initial code snippets for software engineering research provided the final code or text is rigorously validated by the human authors.
C. Prohibited Uses of AI Tools
Authors must not use AI to:
-
Generate Core Content: Fabricating research questions, hypotheses, experimental data, simulation results, or primary conclusions.
-
Conduct Peer Review or Literature Review Syntheses Blindly: Relying completely on AI-generated literature summaries without verifying primary sources, which frequently leads to "hallucinated" citations.
-
Violate Plagiarism Guidelines: Generating substantial blocks of text or code without proper citation or attribution. The final manuscript must reflect the authors' original intellectual contributions.
D. Mandatory Disclosure
If authors utilize AI or AI-assisted technologies in the research process, drafting, or language refinement of the manuscript, they must disclose this transparently:
-
A dedicated "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies" section must be included in the manuscript (typically placed right before the References section).
-
Required details: The declaration must specify the name of the AI tool, the version/model used, the date of use, and the specific sections or tasks where the tool was applied (e.g., "We used [AI Tool Name, Version] to assist with language editing in Section 3"). If no AI tools were used, the authors must state: "The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the creation of this manuscript."
3. Policy for Reviewers
-
Confidentiality and Data Security: Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any part of a submission from Jurnal Teknisi into public AI tools, LLMs, or external servers. Doing so violates peer-review confidentiality, data privacy, and intellectual property rights.
-
Human-Driven Evaluations: Review reports, assessments, and feedback must be generated independently by the human reviewer. Reviewers must not use AI to generate complete peer-review reports, as this undermines the expert critical assessment required by the journal.
4. Policy for Editors
-
Editors of Jurnal Teknisi maintain the ultimate responsibility for editorial decisions (acceptance, revision, or rejection).
-
Editors must not use AI tools to make automated screening decisions regarding the substantive academic merit or originality of a manuscript without expert human oversight.
5. Compliance and Violations
Failure to comply with this AI Policy such as failing to disclose AI usage, fraudulent generation of data, or listing AI as an author will be considered research misconduct. Depending on the severity of the violation, Jurnal Teknisi reserves the right to:
-
Reject the submitted manuscript immediately.
-
Retract published papers if ethical breaches are discovered post-publication.
-
Impose temporary or permanent bans on future submissions by the involved authors.
