Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effect of workload and job stress on the performance of Civil Servants (ASN). Employee performance is an essential factor in achieving effective public administration and service delivery. An appropriate workload can encourage employees to perform more productively, while excessive job stress may reduce their performance. Therefore, this study investigates the influence of these two variables on the performance of civil servants.  This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of 162 civil servants working at the SATPOL PP Office of Indragiri Hilir Regency. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a 5% margin of error, resulting in 116 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires measured on a five-point Likert scale. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results indicate that workload has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, with a regression coefficient of 0.722 and a significance value of 0.000. Conversely, job stress has a negative and significant effect on employee performance, with a regression coefficient of -0.125 and a significance value of 0.005. Simultaneously, workload and job stress significantly affect employee performance, as evidenced by an F-value of 229.528 and a significance level of 0.000. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.802 indicates that 80.2% of the variation in employee performance can be explained by workload and job stress, while the remaining 19.8% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. Effective workload management and job stress control are therefore crucial for improving civil servant performance.
